Welcome to Dr Santiago Corujeira-Gallo who has joined mineAlloy as the centre manager.
Santiago comes with a strong background in engineering, research and project management. After gaining his PhD in surface engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2009, he worked in a number of research positions in different countries and on diverse projects. These include CNEA, Argentina, on plasma spraying of thermal barrier coatings; Plasmar Technologia, Brazil, developing surface treatments and PVD coatings for polymer and aluminium injection tools; CSIRO, Australia, developing wear-resistant alloys for hardfacing; and the University of Birmingham, UK, conducting plasma surface treatments on carbon fibres for the EU-FP7 Fibralspec project.
Santiago joined the Institute for Frontier Materials in September 2016 as a research engineer, working with Dr Daniel Fabijanic and Prof Matthew Barnett in the metals group. In his new role as centre manager, he will assist with the daily challenges of running the mineAlloy centre, and is looking forward to meeting all the industry and research partners over the coming months.
